HerSwab™ enables women to easily and reliably self-collect their own samples to screen for HPV (the virus that causes cervical cancer) and other sexually transmitted infections. Low screening participation rates are a significant problem in women’s health that leads to unnecessary cost and suffering. Cervical cancer is highly treatable when detected early, but more than half of at-risk women worldwide are underscreened or do not screen at all, resulting in over 500,000 cases every year. Similarly, undetected chlamydia and gonorrhea infections cause infertility in 10 million women per year. HerSwab reduces common barriers preventing women from visiting a clinic regularly: lack of awareness, time, childcare, transport, proximity, and discomfort. Self-sampling benefits healthcare players by improving the reach and performance of screening programs, increasing test volumes, and reducing costs for practitioners and the healthcare system.
